New RDA Illawarra analysis estimates that the Illawarra region will face a shortfall of up to 13,000 dwellings by 2041.  This shortfall is predicted as a reflection of the worsening completion rates of Illawarra housing.  The Illawarra’s ability to turn approved Development Applications (DA’s) into completed dwellings is worsening, with only 79% of approvals becoming actual liveable dwellings over the last 10 years. 

We already have a pre-existing undersupply of homes in the region, which coupled with the future shortfall of housing completions, will fail to meet our population growth in the next 18 years.  New solutions need to be found urgently to address the housing supply crisis.
