Venues NSW is undertaking a Concept study for the future development of the WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre. Built as a basketball court, the 6,000 seat venue opened its doors in 1998. The venue currently averages one event every five days and injects more than $20 million into the city's economy every year.
In March 2017, RDA Illawarra commissioned MacroPlanDimasi to undertake an Investment Upgrade Program and Economic Impact Assessment of the WIN Entertainment Centre and developed options for a Convention Centre to be developed.
Over the course of 20 years, the WIN Entertainment Centre venue's design has not been appropriate for certain events and performances opportunities in the market have been missed.
In October 2018, Venues NSW Board Members explained to stakeholders that they would undertake a Concept Study. Stakeholders believe that the city deserves a spectacular venue and there are many exciting potential opportunities for future sports and entertainment events.
RDA Illawarra is working alongside Venues NSW and other stakeholders to determine the vitality of the WIN Entertainment & Sports Centre and the economic value it can provide to the future of our region and our growing tourism industry sector.
