Port Kembla is set to be home to Australia’s first hydrogen refuelling station and hydrogen-fuelled prime movers within the next 9 months.  This is a great win for the Illawarra region, with Coregas, the largest hydrogen producer in Australia, planning to build a hydrogen refuelling facility at its Port Kembla location and acquire two hydrogen-powered prime movers.

The project has wide-reaching benefits for the Illawarra as there is scope for the facility to be used by other early hydrogen adopters in the region.  Switching trucks from diesel to hydrogen is expected to halve truck vehicle emissions and will contribute to a greener Illawarra.

RDA Illawarra supports the Department of Regional NSW in encouraging the government to endorse hydrogen initiatives for the Illawarra and position the region as a leading Hydrogen Hub.
