ABOUT Tehla Bower/Waples Marketing
Tehla Bower BA MBA

Tehla Bower is an independent professional grants consultant with a background in communications, government relations, community engagement and public relations. She has helped raise almost $15 million in funding and fundraising appeals over the years and has advised and coached hundreds of grant seekers via workshops, forums and one-on-one advisory sessions.

Tehla is passionate about the local grants industry and holds a firm belief that there is considerable need from both the corporate and non-profit sectors for assistance and support with all things grants and funding related. She has been directly involved in assisting clients access millions of dollars in funding from government agencies, private funds, community foundations and philanthropic bodies. This has included funding for clients across program areas such as innovation, commercialisation, export, tourism, climate change and ‘green’ initiatives, research, technology, manufacturing, employment, infrastructure, small business and community building.

Clients have included St George Illawarra Dragons, Nissan Casting, CAST CRC, Rambor, Little Wings, CleverLink, Mt Kembla Heritage Inc, Apathco Group, Healthy Cities, RDA Illawarra, IRT Research Foundation, Illawarra Basketball, Cancer Council NSW, to name just a few.

Tehla’s strategic approach to grants and funding initiatives enables her to develop realistic and measurable funding goals for clients. She has prepared strategic funding and fundraising plans across many varied sectors including but not limited to Professional Sports, Health/Aged Care, Research/Manufacturing and Heritage/Community.

A former MBA scholarship student at the UOW’s Sydney Business School, Tehla is highly regarded for her ambition, determination and passion for results. As a speaker and workshop facilitator she is highly engaging and inspiring and has a knack for tailoring materials and content to the unique needs of attendees.

In 2010 she completed the Asian Intensive School of Advanced Management course in

Malaysia, an intensive and challenging program providing insight into international business management and the development of entrepreneurial and innovative management strategies. Later that year she delivered the valedictorian speech at the business school’s graduation ceremony.

Prior to becoming a professional grants consultant Tehla was responsible for coordinating millions of dollars in regional fundraising for Cancer Council NSW and was a key representative on the Southern NSW Regional Cancer Control Grants Committee. From 2007- 2009 she led numerous successful fundraising campaigns in communities across NSW, including management of hundreds of community volunteers. She was responsible for raising over $3 million in fundraising for the charity over two years, growing Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and Daffodil Day by 25% during this time. She has continued to volunteer her time on the Illawarra Relay for Life Committee helping to raise over $300,000 annually for this 24 hr community event.

Tehla is a member of the Export Consultants Association Inc (ECAI) and has also served on the Board of Junior Chamber International (Illawarra) as Director of Partnerships (2011), and hopes to continue her association with this young leaders group into the future.
