ACDC - more than a rock band…

Aged Care, Disability and Community (ACDC) sectors launch Employer Toolkit

Regional Development Australia (RDA) - Illawarra, in conjunction with the NSW Government, is proud to launch the new Aged Care, Disability & Community (ACDC) sectors Employer Toolkit.

The toolkit will be launched by Gareth Ward MP, Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast at Kemira, an award winning Aged Care and Disability collaborative located in Kanahooka, on 24th November.

Gareth Ward said “the NSW Government is pleased to support the ACDC Project.  It’s great to see this initiative deliver tangible outcomes to employers, and I commend the Employer Toolkit as a source of inspiration on how to meet the growing Aged Care and Disability workforce needs.”

The Toolkit was created in direct response to feedback from Illawarra organisations, supported by RDA Illawarra research, regarding the current and future challenges in attracting and retaining suitable employees in the ACDC sectors at a local level.

Debra Murphy, CEO of RDA Illawarra, said “we undertook a workforce survey which conservatively identified growth in the next 3 years of 35% in the Aged Care and 43% in the Disability sectors.  These sectors provide fantastic opportunities for potential employees, with over 2,750 new jobs to fill in the Illawarra market in the next 3 years.”

Whilst this increase in demand for employees is an opportunity for locals seeking employment or progression in their careers, it also poses a significant challenge for employers whose primary goal is to provide service and support to their increasing number of clients.

The Employer Toolkit includes a range of tools aimed at assisting the Aged Care and Disability Care (ACDC) sectors with workforce development, in direct response to employer feedback around increasing demand and competition for the pool of potential employees.

Ms Murphy said “showcasing innovation, collaboration and creativity, the 11 case studies in the kit highlight solutions and strategies implemented in organisations, with a view to spark ideas, partnerships and replication across these growing sectors of the Illawarra’s economy”.
