Small Business and the Wollongong Small Business Club (WSBC)

RDA Illawarra works with small businesses in a variety of ways including through the facilitation of the Wollongong Small Business Club (WSBC).

The WSBC is a monthly networking event for people running a small business. It aims to assist local business operators to develop their business and keep up to date with issues affecting the small business sector.

The Club provides opportunities for small business owners to:

  • Get to know others in the local business community;
  • Provide and receive business referrals as an outcome of networking;
  • Keep up-to-date with issues affecting local businesses;
  • Gain valuable insights and useful strategies from guest speakers;
  • Promote and market their own products and services; and
  • Access information about other events and training opportunities.

These benefits are particularly important to small business owners who would otherwise fall outside the information and networking circles readily available to larger organisations.

Each Small Business Club event attracts an average of 80 members, with attendees ranging from sole traders to medium and larger sized businesses and franchisees. The Club’s membership base covers a wide range of small business sectors.

The Club is an ideal involvement strategy for business owners who:

  • Have recently commenced operation and need to develop contacts;
  • Work from a home office and welcome the opportunity to mix with others;
  • Don’t employ many staff and prefer to network with smaller businesses;
  • Seek to develop relationships with industry service providers; and/or
  • Generally want to improve knowledge and skills to support business growth.

RDA Illawarra has been involved in the Wollongong Small Business Club for over eight years. Small Business Club events are made possible by Industry & Investment NSW, Wollongong City Council, RDA Illawarra and Illawarra ITeC, who work together to bring keynote speakers to each event.

Small Business Club events and sponsors are promoted through RDA Illawarra’s small business database of more than 400 small businesses.
