Shell Cove Boat Harbour

The next stage of the Shell Cove project is the construction of the in-shore boat harbour with a 300 berth marina.  This part of the project will ultimately include a technology/business park, community parks and playgrounds, cycle ways and a range of quality commercial, retail, tourism, community and recreational facilities.

In early 2010 it was reported that the Part 3A Application for the area surrounding the proposed boat harbour had been lodged. The application seeks approval to enable conceptual key design parameters including land use, densities and building heights to be specified. This application further refines the consent previously granted. Following the exhibition period the Project has been requested to comment on submissions. It is expected that this process will take a number of months.

In recent months land sales have continued to exceed expectations with lots again being sold by ballot. This growth will assist to offset the impacts of the poor land sales that were experienced during 2005-2008.

Council is continuing to meet with Government in order to seek a low interest loan that would enable the construction of the boat harbour to be brought forward. Council will also continue to explore various financial options to enable work to start on this vital piece of regional infrastructure as soon as possible.
