Green Jobs Illawarra Project

Green Jobs Illawarra is a strategic project initiated by the South Coast Labour Council in 2009 to transform the region’s economy into one that creates sustainable ‘green’ jobs.

The project has united business, unions, government and education stakeholders, and aims to strengthen the region’s long term economic sustainability and its position as one of the engine rooms of the national economy.

Katrina Skellern, Green Jobs Illawarra Project Manager, is responsible for the implementation of key recommendations of the Green Jobs Illawarra Action Plan and the development of a longer term blueprint for regional transformation, including strategies such as:

► Incorporating green jobs initiatives and strategies into existing major strategic plans for the Illawarra; and

► The identification of and planning for renewable energy precincts in the region.

Ms Skellern’s appointment was made possible by funding from the NSW Government via Industry and Investment NSW and the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water. She is a valuable part of the RDA Illawarra team.

Green Jobs Illawarra Breakfast

A Green Jobs Illawarra breakfast was organised at the beginning of November 2010 as part of the RDA Illawarra Regional Leaders Summit to update the region on the progress of GJI projects and as a leading event towards the GJI Conference 2011.  The breakfast was a resounding success with over 150 representatives from community, government, industry and education coming together to discuss green jobs initiatives.  Presentations from the breakfast can be downloaded here
