Wollongong Convention & Exhibition Centre Feasibility Study

This project recognises the huge economic value of the national and international convention market to NSW, and argues that there are no purpose-built convention centres outside Sydney.  It will undertake a feasibility study for the development of a convention centre.

In its response to the 2009 Illawarra Jobs Summit, the NSW Government agreed to work with Tourism Wollongong and South Coast Regional Tourism to develop a regional approach to attracting conferences and events to the Illawarra.

A key strategic outcome will be a feasibility study that will identify the potential opportunities to locate, build and operate a purpose built Convention and Exhibition centre in Wollongong. The enabling infrastructure project will support a variety of businesses including accommodation, retail, food & beverage and associated companies linked to tourism sector.

On 8 May 2010, funding of $58,000 was announced by the State Government for the feasibility study.  Matching funding for the study was provided by Tourism Wollongong and the University of Wollongong.

To date the feasibility study has been completed and Tourism Wollongong are in the process of presenting the findings to interested parties.
